Know Thyself Workshop for 10th Class Students @ D.L.D.A.V. School

Do you remember when did you get the chance of choice for the first time in the school time? It was the time to choose streams after class 10th. If you remember the time then you might also remember how every person on the planed didn’t act less than Buddha with respect to wisdom and used to be full of advice, just for you. All that pressure of facing national level examination (Xth Class Board) for the first time and then the sword of confusion and uncertainty lying over your head. Unfortunately, things have not changed much in the arena. Students are like that only even today. The arguments given at that time like ‘Intelligent students take science’ ‘Science have a big scope’ ‘Dumbos take arts’ even echoes in the dreams of the students of today.

As a solution to the confusion, we designed the workshop of Know Thyself specially for class Xth. The workshop is focused on different aspects of knowing self and XIth class stream selection along with ambition clarity. The workshop is a combination of SWOT technique, NLP & other psychological technique and career counselling. Other than activities & in depth discussion, the process also involved a self evaluating questionnaire specially meant for the purpose. The workshop is divided in two halves, the first half focuses on self analysis and the second half emphasize on ambition clarity & stream selection.

The workshop was a new experience to the students of class Xth at D.L.D.A.V. School, Shalimar Bagh. The students enjoyed each and every activity and were always curious about the next step. By the end of the workshop the students were not even clear about the stream that they want to choose but even about the ambition they want to peruse as their future. They were glued to the premises even after the full 4 hours workshop, which motivated even us a lot. We express our deepest gratitude to the D.L.D.A.V. School, Shalimar Bagh for giving us the platform and specially Pooja Ma’am for helping us out. We wish good luck to the children.

At Career Fair @ D.L.D.A.V., Shalimar Bagh

It feels like nothing less than deja vu when one interacts with the students of schools now a days. Other than the same energy,  innocence and charm, one can observe the similar confusion as we faced at this crucial crossroads of life. If we let them do the similar mistakes as us then there deserves a question mark over the statement of our evolution. So we keep trying to rub that one!

There is no bigger opportunity for us than to interact with the students who are at a crucial point of life and are looking up for the guidance in life. We are talking about the crucial point of class X to XII when students are being bashed black & blue by the pressure of schools & society but are still confused about the career path to choose. The opportunity was given by the D.L.D.A.V. Model School, Shalimar Bagh and the event was the Career Fair organised by the same. Here we pitched our Know Yourself, Self Analysis & Career Guidance workshop, specially designed for the students of class X-XII. Other than this we also had long discussions with different students about their confusion and insecurities and tried our level best to resolve them. The response by the students were immense, as if they were waiting for this opportunity only. And now we are waiting like anything to hold the workshop at school and help them to come out of the clouds of confusion. We express our deepest gratitude to D.L.D.A.V. School, Shalimar Bagh to share this opportunity with us.

Stress Management Session With 12th Class Students at CRPF School, Rohini

If we compare the life of around 40 years ago and now, then when do you think the stress levels were higher, then or now? Let’s try to compare the two sets. One set involve a job of around 10 to 5 followed by leisure time with family and friends. On contrary in the second set there is no bar on working hours , a part of mind is always handcuffed with the beeps of messages and mail irrespective of time, deadlines keep chasing us like wild dogs even in dreams and on and on and on..

This could be a very oversimplifying image of the two sets but no one can deny that life has become very fast now a days and the students of today are not left untouched with it. With almost both of the parents fighting the war of moving forward in a ‘progressive’ world and a student lost in the whirlpool of options with little guidance and cut throat competition. Can you imagine the state of mind of this child? And where do you think the pressure level would be at highest? Exactly, at the top! In this case for the 12th class. With the pressure of boards, loads of expectations at the back and a mind filled with insecurity of the future, the stress levels are really high! There is a dire need of channelizing this escalating energy, before it crumbles the cookie in another headline of another newspaper.

We hold high gratitude to the Teachers, Principal, Management and Administration for inviting us to the school to guide the students of 12th class about how to break this 7th door of the Chakravyuh of stress. The levels of stress were as expected high but gradually as the session progressed the strain started fading away. The students were very sincere and tried to understand the functioning of stress but even they could not resist the child within to come out with activities towards the end. The session finally culminated with relaxing meditation of PMR. Many satisfying faces left the hall but some eager faces filled with inquiries stayed and we hope we satisfies their quench for solution.

No! We are not magicians and we did not vanish the stress but we definitely provided the students with some unique Astras & Shastras to win the battle with ease.

A session on Cyber Bullying at JM International School, Dwarka

Bullying has been a menace to the society and specially childhood and the place prone to this behaviour is school. Although we all know about bullying but we often accept it as a ‘normal’ think which makes it more dangerous. With changing times the menace has given rise to another form – Cyber Bullying. Universal reach of internet, easy availability of electronic devices, invisibility of bully, unawareness about the concept and inability to handle it makes it even more dangerous than general bullying. We often misinterpret Cyber Bullying for the bullying related to internet but cyber bullying is a broader concept. It is an aggressive, intentional act or behaviour that is carried out by a group or an individual, using electronic forms of contact, repeatedly and over time against a victim who cannot easily defend him or herself.

Observing the increasing concern and repercussions over the children due to the practice, The Eighth Dimension Consultancy decided to spread awareness about it in the schools and we started with JM International School, Dwarka. The students were mix of class XI and XII and were majorly confused about the concept. As part of the 80 minutes session we discussed the concept of bullying and cyber bullying in detail, its importance and prevalence, how and why does it spread and the way out of this swamp. The session was driven by deductive and dialectical approach and was filled with different activities & discussion. The sincerity and seriousness over the faces of children and keenness to know more in their eyes were reflection of their struggle with the challenge. The story of the other side, that why does a person becomes a bully definitely made some heads turn and brought glitter of hope and confidence in some eyes. After solving the inquiries the session culminated with a message, ‘Be A Buddy, Not A Bully’

“If you ask me what an achievement is, I would reply that it is to kindle the learner in a student!”
The quote expresses our reflection of the interaction with the students of the Jagannath International School. The session started with a set of defensive students but gradually the walls went down and we were able to create a new world full of euphoria of self belief. As per our mentors Ashtam Neelkanth & Ankur Dahiya, ‘It feels blessed when one receives gratitude from the students with radiating smiles and glittering eyes after the session, it’s enchanting and motivating altogether.’

We express our utmost gratitude to the administration of Jagannath International School for giving us the fantastic opportunity to interact with their students and to the students of the same who applauded our work with an honest advancing zenith feedback.

The session taken was a blend of self-belief, alternative thinking and problem solving, guided by the deductive approach & implementation intention and followed activity based learning.

‘A good teacher can improve hope, ignite the imagination and instill a love of learning’
This quote by Brad Henry was echoing in the mind as our mentors Ashtam Neelkanth and Ankur Dahiya had an interactive learning session with the students of Guru Nanak Public School over positivity, alternative thinking and mind clarity. It was a session which started with curious doubtful faces (what else do you expect when you are meeting someone for the first time) but concluded with eyes glittering with dreams and souls stirred with energy. The session was a mix of discussions about problem solving via some alternative paths and finally heading towards self beleif and knowing self via deductive approach.
We hold high gratitude to Guru Nanak Public School, Pushpanjali Enclaveadministration for giving us such an amazing opportunity and to the students of the same who were efficient participants and finally appreciated us with thunderous applause. Thank you all for being part of our mission of creating a society of independent thinkers.
